A real challenge

(posted by Paul Zilmer)

This past Sunday brought the first service of the church that has moved in right next door to the BEC. They use extremely loud amplification – the entire mall reverberates. Their service runs from 8:00-10:00, which overlaps our service, which begins at 9:30.

Their sign says they will also have a service from 6:00-8:00 this evening (Wednesday), which will overlap our 7:00 class. I will try to talk with the pastor about the volume, and we will see what happens from there. We would certainly rather not get into a fight with them. We do, however, need to be able to hear one another within our own space.

It will be a matter for our prayers!

  1. You'll be in my prayers, too. That's a tricky situation.

We read the following words this eve at our reading group; I hope you don't mind me sharing them:

... be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
    (1Thess. 5:14-15)

God continue to be with you.

  3. wow- what a unique challenge! I wonder what you all are supposed to learn out of this one? We experienced something similar in that when the volunteers went to set up our musical support and outreach/witness booth at the Comrades race, a Muslim group was right there. Rather than offend them with what we were going to be projecting through our loudspeakers, we moved down a bit and had an awesome experience with the other race supporters joining in our songs and encouraging the runners.

We will pray that God will continue to bless your efforts and give you patience as well!!

    Much love,
    Kim
